On the 7th of March 2024, the School of Liberal Studies (CITRA-ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp) paid a working visit to Occupational Safety and Health Administration Office (OSHA), UPM. The CITRA-ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp delegation, led by the Deputy Dean (Communication Competency), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zarina Othman, was welcomed
warmly by OSHA UPM led by Pn. Nor Afida Miskam, Senior Science Officer. The visit discussed good practices in occupational safety and health management in an organisation.

The School of Liberal Studies (CITRA ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp) hosted a Community First Aid & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Workshop located in the Multimedia Presentation Hall, Block G, Faculty of Information Science & Technology (FTSM). The workshop organized by the Occupational Safety & Health Committee (JKKP) has featured experts from CITRA-ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp namely Dr. Lim Kar Keng (Malaysian Red Crescent Training Committee) as a speaker. This workshop aims to provide knowledge to staff for community first aid & CPR assistance and was attended by CITRA-ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp residents. In addition, a Know Your Medicine campaign from the Pharmacy Department, Hospital Kajang. Selangor was also present to provide information about medicines (types, labels, benefits, risks, usage guidelines, intake times, storage tips, allergy cards and etc).

Thirteen students from Pusat Pengajian Citra Universiti (CITRA ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp), Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), and Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSK) under the guidance of the lecturer and English language teachers from CITRA ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp participated in the HE ELCA closing ceremony organised by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) at Dewan Tuanku Canselor UPSI, Tanjung Malim on the 7^th of December, 2023. The closing ceremony was officiated by YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Norzaini Azman, the Deputy Director General of Higher Education.

HE ELCA is an annual event co-organised by the Department of Higher Education and a selected public university to provide opportunities and encouragement to public university students to practice and enhance their English language competency outside the classroom setting. Through students’ participation in various competitions online and offline, students develop confidence to communicate in English. HE ELCA was participated by 1816 students across public universities in Malaysia.

It is hoped that through continuous effort and dedication as displayed by the ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp ELCA team 2023, the future team in 2024 will be able to pursue efforts and gain winnings for ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp.

The School of Liberal Arts (SLA) Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand conducted an online meeting with Pusat Pengajian Citra University (PPCU) on 19th December 2023 regarding the staff online teaching exchange program. The meeting was attended by the Dean of SLA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sorabud Rungrojsuwan and other SLA members including Asst. Prof.Teeranuch Anurit, Aj. Kittikan Hararak, Aj. Prach Aowsakorn and Team PPCU was led by Assoc. Prof. Zarina Othman alongside Dr. Mohd Fadhli Shah Khaidzir, Dr. Normazidah Che Musa, Dr Halizah Omar, Dr. Chairozila Mohd Shamsuddin and Mrs. Azwan Shaiza Nizam. Through this program, selected english teachers from Pusat Citra will have the opportunity to teach some of the English courses at the School of Liberal Arts in the upcoming Spring Semester 2024. On 6 December 2023 (Wednesday), the English Language Unit of Citra Centre for Liberal Studies ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp (PPCU) conducted a benchmarking visit to Centre for Languages and Pre-University Academic Development (CELPAD), International Islamic University in Gombak. A total of 16 English Language staff, headed by Dr. Normazidah Che Musa, the English Language Coordinator, joined the entourage.

The benchmarking visit, held for the first time with CELPAD, aims towards creating a platform for sharing best practices in English Language curriculum design and administration, teaching and learning approaches and assessment. It also targets to build a synergy between the two departments particularly in the development of English Language teaching and learning.

The Deputy Director, Dr. Liza Abdullah and the Head of English Language Department, Dr. Khairul Abu Sufi, together with the English Language academic staff welcomed the team from Citra. We were given a tour of the CELPAD Independent Language Learning Centre (CILLC) and briefed on the English Language curriculum and courses offered to IIU students. The Citra team also introduced PPCU and the English Language curriculum structure and the courses.

At the end of the visit, both parties agreed to have further communication to seek ideas for future collaborations.

A total of 150 students who took the course LMCR1102 Volunteering Service from 3 different sets gathered to hear the sharing of two of Youth Volunteer Icons at the DK43.102 TAMS Lecture Hall. This course is taught by Dr. Wardah Mustafa Din & Dr Nurul Hanis Aminuddin Jafry, and is a C5 elective course offered to expose students to volunteer work & service.

The icon that has been specially invited is En. Shakir Mustafa Din who is the Manager of an NGO of the Pasak Kitchen Welfare Organisation, Kuala Lumpur and a prospective graduate of Citra Science, Sister Nur Izzatul Farhah. These two icons share the experience of carrying out effective volunteer work & impact on themselves. It is hoped that the partnership from the NGOs and these prospective graduates, will inject the spirit of volunteerism in the students, thus becoming a guide for them to carry out voluntary activities at the time.

The Natural Products Benefits & Risks Course LMCR1572 is a course that uses part of the Know Your Medicine (Kenali Ubat Anda) Module, Ministry of Health Malaysia. In this regard, a sharing module entitled Registration of Medicines, Supplements & Cosmetics was made by Puan Jasmin A/P Sam Retnam Deniel who is a Pharmacist of Hospital Serdang to 120 students who enrolled in this course. This course is taught by Dr. Wardah Mustafa Din & Dr Yusnaini Md.Yusoff. Among the main points explained to the students are the importance of checking the registration of medicines, supplements & cosmetics, as well as ways of identifying the characteristics of drugs that have been registered with MOH. In addition, many examples are also given of the effects of using unregistered drugs. Hopefully with this partnership, students become savvy & literate consumers regarding the safe use of medicines, supplements and cosmetics.

On 10 to 12 November 2023, National University of Malaysia’s Citra Student Association (Pesistra) had undergone the Pesistra Leadership Training Camp Session 23/24 at the CITRA ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp and ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp’s Tanjung Karang Training Centre. This leadership training camp is filled with various slots and activities covering various aspects of leadership. Among the slots carried out are HEP Joint Slots for Pesistra Activity Management and Istar System. This slot helps to provide Pesistra members with an understanding of Pesistra’s activity management strategy. Next, the Bursar’s Slot for Fund Management focuses on financial management skills and the responsibilities of Pesistra members in managing funds for Pesistra’s activities. Then, the Lecturer Partnership Slot by Dr. Maharam who shared her knowledge and experience in the context of leadership.

This can include aspects of leadership theory, current challenges, and practical tips for becoming an effective leader. In addition, the Sharing Slot by the President and Vice President of Pesistra Session 22/23 and Session 23/24 as well as the Secretary-General and Honorary Treasurer of Session 21/22 provide a unique view of the challenges and discuss the scope of duties and responsibilities of Pesistra members in more detail. Finally, the camp was also participated by the Slot of Leisure Activities and Group Activities which were carried out to foster the spirit of cooperation in a relaxed environment and enable the participants to interact positively. This activity practices leadership, problem-solving and challenge skills that enable participants to collaborate and develop strong relationships in the context of group work.

It is hoped that this camp will help Pesistra members to have a better understanding on the scope of their duties & responsibilities as well as encourage and motivate Pesistra members to move forward in the future.
