Research Areas
Professor Burhanuddin Yeop Majlis is a distinguished microelectronics expert and a key figure in Malaysian academia and technology. He received his Ph.D. in microelectronics from the University of Durham, United Kingdom in 1988, his M.Sc. in microelectronics from the University of Wales, UK in 1980, and his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics from ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp in 1979. His career at ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp is marked by leadership roles, including Deputy Dean of Engineering and founder of the Institute of Microengineering and Nanoelectronics (IMEN). He also directed the ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp-TM Microelectronics Research Centre and spearheaded the creation of ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp’s research clean room. A pioneer in his field, he initiated research in microfabrication, microsensors, and GaAs technology, later securing significant funding for MEMS research. His current interests include MEMS, RFMEMS, BioMEMS, and microenergy. An accomplished author, he has published numerous academic papers and textbooks. His contributions to the field are further highlighted by his leadership positions in professional societies, such as his role as Chairman of the IEEE Electron Devices Malaysia Chapter, and his founding of the Malaysia Nanotechnology Association. He was also appointed as a Tier-1 Senior Fellow of the MIMOS Industry Advisory Group (IAG). He was honored with the Achievement in Academic Award from the IET Malaysia in 2019.
