A total of 41 peer-reviewed articles published between 2003 and 2023 were analyzed, revealing that CSR positively influences CS across including environmental, social, and financial dimensions. However, notable differences were found between SMEs and large enterprises in terms of CSR implementation mechanisms. While large enterprises rely on formal structures like corporate governance, SMEs demonstrate more diverse and informal approaches. The review also identified key research gaps: a lack of integrated, multidimensional analyses; limited comparisons of firm size; and an overreliance on subjective primary data. To address these limitations, more comprehensive, comparative, and data-driven studies are required. This paper contributes to a deeper understanding of how CSR can enhance SMEs’ long-term sustainability and offers valuable directions for future research and practice.

The Influence of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Activities on Consumers’ Purchasing Behavior /jurnalpengurusan/article/the-influence-of-corporate-social-responsibility-csr-activities-on-consumers-purchasing-behavior/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-influence-of-corporate-social-responsibility-csr-activities-on-consumers-purchasing-behavior Mon, 10 Oct 2022 13:43:04 +0000 /jurnalpengurusan/?post_type=article&p=4891 The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, which include economic, environmental, social, and legal concerns on consumers’ purchasing behavior in the Malaysian context. A questionnaire was developed to collect data from the respondents using snowballing sampling. This research found mixed results in term of significance of the relationships between economic, social, and legal concerns and consumers’ purchasing behavior. Environmental concerns had an insignificant relationship with consumers’ purchasing behavior. The results of this research may help managers in managing their businesses, since a single CSR strategy cannot be competitive for corporations to participate in the current global business environment. The findings may be useful to policymakers as it encourages corporations to engage actively in CSR. The outcome of this research may expand the knowledge base on CSR, since most of the investigations on consumers’ responses to CSR have been limited to a few states in Malaysia.

Corporate Social Responsibility, Earnings Management and Industry Type: Does CSR Reinforce Entrenchment Strategy? /jurnalpengurusan/article/corporate-social-responsibility-earnings-management-and-industry-type-does-csr-reinforce-entrenchment-strategy/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=corporate-social-responsibility-earnings-management-and-industry-type-does-csr-reinforce-entrenchment-strategy Fri, 07 Oct 2022 01:54:59 +0000 /jurnalpengurusan/?post_type=article&p=1680 Managers could opportunistically misuse corporate social responsibility (CSR) to obfuscate earnings management (EM) by reporting more CSR activities that eventually accomplished stakeholders’ advocacy as their demands on CSR are satisfied. Likewise, sensitive industries have a higher commitment to CSR to appease their stakeholders’ adverse reactions to the nature of their business. This study examines the relationship between EM and sensitive industries on CSR (proxied by the quality of CSR disclosure) and the moderating role of sensitive industries in the relationship between EM and CSR. Employing multiple regression analysis on Malaysian public listed companies for the year 2016, this study finds an insignificant association between EM and CSR, a positive association between sensitive industries companies and CSR and sensitive industries moderate the relationship between EM and CSR. This study offers practical implications for companies to strengthen their corporate governance mechanisms and for investors to cautiously evaluate the companies’ ethics.
