Previous studies show that there is inconsistent relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and business performance. Thus, this empirical study attempts to examine the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation variables and business performance and the influence of transformational leadership style as a moderating variable among SMEs in Malaysia. By using simple random sampling technique, a total of 143 SMEs in Malaysia are used as samples in this study. Correlation analysis, multiple regression and hierarchical regression are used to test the hypothesis. Results of the analysis show that the three independent variables, i.e., innovation, proactive and risk taking have positive significant relationships with business performance. The study also finds that transformational leadership style variable moderates the relationship between innovation and risk taking and business performance. It is hoped that the findings from this study can be utilized by the government, entrepreneurs, researchers and interested parties in the field of entrepreneurial leadership.

The Effect of Entrepreneurial Orientation Dimensions on Takaful Agency’s Business Performance in Malaysia

This study aimed to examine the relationship among the five dimensions of entrepreneurial orientations (innovativeness, risk taking, autonomy, competitive aggressiveness, and proactiveness) and performance of Takaful agencies in Malaysia. A total of 211 questionnaires were collected via purposive sampling from Takaful agency’s managers from three main Takaful operators namely Etiqa, Takaful Malaysia and Takaful Ikhlas. A structural equation model that assessed the relationship between the proposed variables was tested using PLS 2.0. The findings revealed that out of the five dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation, proactiveness and autonomy were found to have significant influence on business performance.

The Effect of Entrepreneurial Orientation, Innovation Capability and Knowledge Creation on Firm Performance: A Perspective on Small Scale Entrepreneurs

The purpose of this study is to examine the predictive effects of entrepreneurial orientation, innovation capability and knowledge creation on firm performance. Data for the study was collected using a cross-sectional quantitative survey. A total of 188 useable responses were collected from SMEs in Malaysia. The findings show that entrepreneurial orientation, innovation capability and knowledge creation have a positive impact on firm performance. Furthermore, the impacts of entrepreneurial orientation and innovation capability on knowledge creation are also examined in this study. The findings suggest that innovation capability is positively related to knowledge creation, but entrepreneurial orientation does not have a significant impact on knowledge creation. This study makes a considerable contribution to the existing literature on entrepreneurial orientation, innovation capability and knowledge creation of SMEs, particularly in regards to explaining the performance of Malaysian SMEs.

Does Innovation Affect the Firm Performance in Developing Countries? A Conceptual Framework

The main objective of the paper is to explore the relationships between innovation, entrepreneurial orientation (EO), organizational culture (OC), strategic orientation (SO) and firm performance (FP). Based on the literature review, a conceptual model has been developed of the relationships between variables. This study was greatly motivated by the inconsistent findings and the gaps indicated in the contemporary literature regarding those relationships that have not been developed together within the context of developing countries. This study adopted the resource-based view and contingency theory as an underpinning theory for its assumptions and to develop the theoretical model for this study. To explore the mediating impact of innovation on the relationship between EO, OC, SO and FP in emerging countries. The originality of the article is that it offers valuable implications for different types of firms thus to provide an understanding of the relationship between EO, OC and SO and innovation to introduce innovative processes and products as well as to boost FP.

Women Entrepreneurial Career Maturity towards Success of Business in Semarang, Indonesia

This paper investigates the influence of career maturity amongst women entrepreneurs in Semarang, Indonesia towards the success of their business. Based on theoretical perspectives and empirical contribution, an integrated research model was developed focusing on entrepreneurial orientation, entrepreneurial experience, need for achievement and instrumental readiness. The respondents were 110 women entrepreneurs from Semarang, Indonesia. Results demonstrated that the entrepreneurial orientation, need for achievement and entrepreneurial experience positively influenced woman entrepreneurial career maturity. Entrepreneurial orientation and need for achievement showed a positive influence on success of business. The women entrepreneurial career maturity had a significant and positive effect on success of business. However, the effects of instrumental readiness on women entrepreneurial career maturity and success of business were insignificant, and the effect of entrepreneur experience on success of business was also insignificant. This paper is imperative in offering practical insights into the strategic role of women entrepreneurs, which may be a significant a factor in their entrepreneurial success.
