The Effect of Financial Technology, Innovation, Business Strategy, and Market Orientation on Business Performance among Indonesian SMEs: A Study in Riau Province

The pandemic’s negative impact on SMEs’ performance have been particularly felt as a result of changes in consumer behavior. Therefore, strategic actions are required to accelerate the growth of SMEs in the post-pandemic era. Based on the Dynamic Capabilities Theory, the aim of this study was to analyze the effect of financial technology, innovation, business strategy, and market orientation on the business performance of SMEs in Riau Province, Indonesia. Using purposive sampling, survey data was collected from a sample of 123 SME owner-managers. Data analysis using partial least squares structural equation modeling showed that financial technology, innovation, business strategy, and market orientation significantly affect the business performance of SMEs.�� SME owner-managers use financial technology to make new breakthroughs through innovation, implement more diverse business strategies, and improve market orientation.��The findings suggest that long-term digital technology development strategies are required as a platform for SMEs to grow.

Catastrophe of E-Commerce among Malaysian SMEs – Between Its Perceived and Proven Benefits

There is a substantial interest in the adoption of e-commerce by firms, particularly the small and medium enterprises (SMEs). SMEs are said to gain considerably from using the e-commerce because the Internet provides equal access to both SMEs and large organizations. It is also said SMEs which adopt e-commerce will improve their businesses and finally increase their profit. However, little is known concerning the benefits that SMEs have gained by adopting e-commerce and to what extent have SMEs achieved these benefits. Thus, this paper aims to analyse between the benefits that SMEs perceived they have gained and the proven benefits they realised. Survey and face-to-face interviews were carried-out in this study. The study found a number of interesting facts. Many respondents in the survey indicated that they gained some benefits, such as, more customers, increased sales, and increased productivity. Yet, the interviews did not substantiate such claims. This paper looks at these views critically and finally provides some suggestions and recommendations.

Does Innovation Affect the Firm Performance in Developing Countries? A Conceptual Framework

The main objective of the paper is to explore the relationships between innovation, entrepreneurial orientation (EO), organizational culture (OC), strategic orientation (SO) and firm performance (FP). Based on the literature review, a conceptual model has been developed of the relationships between variables. This study was greatly motivated by the inconsistent findings and the gaps indicated in the contemporary literature regarding those relationships that have not been developed together within the context of developing countries. This study adopted the resource-based view and contingency theory as an underpinning theory for its assumptions and to develop the theoretical model for this study. To explore the mediating impact of innovation on the relationship between EO, OC, SO and FP in emerging countries. The originality of the article is that it offers valuable implications for different types of firms thus to provide an understanding of the relationship between EO, OC and SO and innovation to introduce innovative processes and products as well as to boost FP.

Impak Komunikasi terhadap Penerimaan Inovasi Penanaman Padi

Paddy plantation is an important industry in Malaysia. Advancement and innovation are important elements in improving this industry. Introduction of new technology and innovation are influenced by several factors including communication. The use of effective communication could possibly increase the innovation diffusion in multiple sectors. This study looks on the impact of communication towards innovation on paddy plantation. Three important aspects which include role of farmers, knowledge and information of the farmers and innovation management in the context of communication were investigated to understand its impacts towards innovation acceptance among farmers. This research was undertaken among farmers in Perak which involved 150 paddy farmers as respondents. The findings revealed that communication plays an important role towards acceptance of innovation among the paddy farmers. Selection of the correct communication channel increases the innovation acceptance. Suggestions to improve communication are also added in the last section of this study.
