Previous studies have recognized that talent management can significantly influence an organization’s performance, but theoretical and empirical research on this relationship remains limited within public service organizations. Therefore, this research aimed to explore and understand the interplay among talent, talent management, and competitiveness within the context of the Malaysian public service sector. Following a qualitative approach, interviews were conducted with 10 Malaysian public servants from the Public Sector Key Position (JUSA) level. The interview transcripts were subsequently analyzed using ATLAS.ti 9 software. The study’s findings revealed that talent management and talent constitute a core strategy for competitiveness in the Malaysian public service. Clear definitions of these concepts are vital in facilitating a more profound understanding of this strategy among public service organizations and their stakeholders. Consequently, the refinement and elaboration of definitions are essential to ensure clarity and consensus among all stakeholders, thus preventing confusion and misunderstandings in the future. Lastly, the definition process enables public service organizations to develop more precise definitions based on their specific context and scope.

The Performance of Single Mother Co-operatives and Their Influencing Factors: A Qualitative Investigation in Peninsular Malaysia /jurnalpengurusan/article/the-performance-of-single-mother-co-operatives-and-their-influencing-factors-a-qualitative-investigation-in-peninsular-malaysia/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-performance-of-single-mother-co-operatives-and-their-influencing-factors-a-qualitative-investigation-in-peninsular-malaysia Mon, 10 Oct 2022 11:19:24 +0000 /jurnalpengurusan/?post_type=article&p=4844 The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of Peninsular Malaysia’s single mother co-operatives. This study mainly examines the number of active and inactive co-operatives and identifies the key factors influencing their success or failure. The research evaluated 23 co-operative groups of single mothers. The performance of the co- operatives was analysed through in-depth interviews with officers of the Malaysian Co-operative Societies Commission (MCSC). Despite the government’s financial and non-financial assistance, the findings indicate that co-operatives have not performed well. The preliminary results suggest that inactive single mother co-operatives are higher than those active ones. This study found that 61% of the total single mother co-operatives in Peninsular Malaysia are inactive (dormant and non-operational) compared to 39% active ones. Four influencing factors contribute to a higher percentage of inactive co-operatives: limited resources, dependence on subsidies and sponsors, managerial incompetency, and member participation. The results suggest solutions for the management of single mother co-operatives and provide additional information and contribution to the parties involved to empower the association to fulfil the economic, social, and cultural requirements.

Building a Knowledge-Intensive Medical Device Industry: The Effect of Knowledge Creation in R&D Project Performance /jurnalpengurusan/article/building-a-knowledge-intensive-medical-device-industry-the-effect-of-knowledge-creation-in-rd-project-performance/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=building-a-knowledge-intensive-medical-device-industry-the-effect-of-knowledge-creation-in-rd-project-performance Mon, 10 Oct 2022 01:05:42 +0000 /jurnalpengurusan/?post_type=article&p=4763 This study aimed to examine the influence of the organizational factors (reward, training, and collaboration) and knowledge creation process on R&D project performance. A quantitative approach was employed with the data obtained from the sample of R&D projects from the medical device firms listed on the Association of Malaysian Medical Industries (AAMI). Smart-PLS 3.0 software was used to check the data validity and reliability, and to test the structural path modeling. A total of 115 R&D project managers participated in this study with a response rate of 27.2%. The results revealed that six sub-hypotheses out of seven sub-hypotheses were supported. Based on the findings, this study implies that organizational factors, such as reward and collaboration, with the knowledge creation process as the mediator, are critical to enhance the R&D project performance among medical devices firms. This study provides theoretical and practical implications as well as suggestions for future R&D performance studies in different industries.

The Signaling Power of the Investment Banks’ Reputation on the Performance of IPOs on Bursa Malaysia /jurnalpengurusan/article/the-signaling-power-of-the-investment-banks-reputation-on-the-performance-of-ipos-on-bursa-malaysia/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-signaling-power-of-the-investment-banks-reputation-on-the-performance-of-ipos-on-bursa-malaysia Sat, 08 Oct 2022 18:07:20 +0000 /jurnalpengurusan/?post_type=article&p=3377 This study examines the extent of the investment banks’ (IB) reputation, both high and low, affect the performance of the initial public offers (IPOs) on the Malaysian Main Board, Second Board and the MESDAQ market. Conventional and modified methodologies are used to measure the abnormal returns of the Malaysian samples between 2002 and 2008. The regression results based on the modified methods demonstrate that the reputation of IBs have significant influence over the performance of IPOs. However, the positive impact of the high reputation IBs (High IBs) is restricted to the Second Board over the short and medium terms but the negative influence of the low reputation IBs (Low IBs) is confined to the MESDAQ companies over the medium and the long terms. Contrary to many prior empirical studies, the reputation of the IBs does possess the signaling power to infer the future performance of IPOs.

The findings show that entrepreneurial orientation, innovation capability and knowledge creation have a positive impact on firm performance. Furthermore, the impacts of entrepreneurial orientation and innovation capability on knowledge creation are also examined in this study. The findings suggest that innovation capability is positively related to knowledge creation, but entrepreneurial orientation does not have a significant impact on knowledge creation. This study makes a considerable contribution to the existing literature on entrepreneurial orientation, innovation capability and knowledge creation of SMEs, particularly in regards to explaining the performance of Malaysian SMEs.
