While research on presenteeism has gained momentum internationally, it remains limited within the Malaysian context particularly among millennial employees. This study seeks to address this gap by examining the influence of workload, supervisor support, and coworker support on presenteeism among Malaysian millennials. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), as of the first quarter of 2020, the total employed population in Malaysia stood at 15.24 million, with millennials (aged 25 to 40) recorded for approximately 9.4 million in 2019. Employing a cross-sectional design, this study collected data from 123 millennial employees in Malaysia through purposive and snowball sampling methods. Respondents completed an online self-administered questionnaire, and the data were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 25. The findings revealed that among the variables studied, only workload significantly predicted presenteeism. These results offer important insights into the work-related factors contributing to presenteeism and provide a more contextually relevant understanding applicable to the Malaysian workforce.

Measuring the Effect of Commitment on Occupational Stressors and Individual Productivity Ties /jurnalpengurusan/article/measuring-the-effect-of-commitment-on-occupational-stressors-and-individual-productivity-ties/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=measuring-the-effect-of-commitment-on-occupational-stressors-and-individual-productivity-ties Wed, 12 Oct 2022 05:48:54 +0000 /jurnalpengurusan/?post_type=article&p=5893 Based upon existing literature, stress at the workplace has a negative effect on commitment. The negative effect on commitment jeopardizes individual productivity. The purpose of the present study is to determine the indirect effects of occupational stressors on individual productivity through the analysis of commitment variables. The respondents were selected utilizing the proportionate stratified random sampling method. A total of 300 questionnaires were collected from the academic administrators of 5 Malaysian research universities. The research instrument used for the stress and commitment components is adopted from the ASSET (A Shortened Stress Evaluation Tool). Meanwhile, the productivity component utilized the criteria employed by the annual performance appraisal of the research universities. Occupational stressors are analyzed dimensionally, while commitment and individual productivity are analyzed aggregately. The results show that certain occupational stressors are significantly, but negatively, related to commitment, including work relationships; work-life balance; overload; control; resources and communication; and pay and benefits. The results also indicate that certain occupational stressors are significantly, but negatively, related to individual productivity, including work relationships; work-life balance; job security; control; resources and communication; and pay and benefits. Finally, the present study finds that commitment partially mediates the aforementioned relationships.

Factors Associated with Participation in a Corporate Wellness Program: The Case of International Hospitality Company /jurnalpengurusan/article/factors-associated-with-participation-in-a-corporate-wellness-program-the-case-of-international-hospitality-company/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=factors-associated-with-participation-in-a-corporate-wellness-program-the-case-of-international-hospitality-company Mon, 10 Oct 2022 01:45:02 +0000 /jurnalpengurusan/?post_type=article&p=4800 Corporate wellness programs (CWPs)are usually offered by employers to encourage their employees to live a healthy lifestyle by implementing significant changes in their daily routines to reduce their health costs and increase productivity. The study identifies factors associated with employees’ participation in CWPs. This study used a quantitative approach by designing a questionnaire based on the relevant literature to collect data from the target respondents. The population of this study consists of 900 employees working at an international hospitality company called XYZ Company operating in Bahrain. The researchers retrieved 307 completed questionnaires out of the 900 distributed, representing a 34% response rate. The respondents represent first-line employees, supervisors, and managerial levels. About 45% of them would like to engage in physical activity, especially at the corporate fitness center, and preferred a wellness program that would allow them to get personalized exercise or diet counseling in one-to-one sessions. Furthermore, the results showed that culture was the only engagement factor associated with participation in the CWPs. Individual factors, social environment factors, physical environment factors, and organizational policy factors were not associated with participation in the CWP. Companies should use comprehensive CWPs that include physical activities, nutrition, recovery, and psychological aspects.

Examining the Link among Agility, Knowledge Management Practices and Firm Performance: Empirical Evidence from Electrical and Electronics Manufacturing Firms /jurnalpengurusan/article/examining-the-link-among-agility-knowledge-management-practices-and-firm-performance-empirical-evidence-from-electrical-and-electronics-manufacturing-firms/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=examining-the-link-among-agility-knowledge-management-practices-and-firm-performance-empirical-evidence-from-electrical-and-electronics-manufacturing-firms Thu, 09 Jun 2022 04:05:54 +0000 http://www.ukm.my/jurnalpengurusan/?post_type=article&p=807 The study empirically investigates the relationship between agility and knowledge management practices on firm performance among the electrical and electronics manufacturing firms in Malaysia. The study was conducted using a survey method. A total of 85 manufacturing firms participated in this study. The findings showed that knowledge management practices mediate the relationship between agility and firm performance, which is in line with the Knowledge-Based View (KBV) where knowledge is an asset of the firm. The findings also empirically support the theoretical conceptualization of agility as co-dependent on knowledge management. The implications for practising managers within manufacturing firms are twofold, where agility alone does not lead to increased firm performance, and the implementation of only one of the factors is suboptimal.
