Therefore, strategic actions are required to accelerate the growth of SMEs in the post-pandemic era. Based on the Dynamic Capabilities Theory, the aim of this study was to analyze the effect of financial technology, innovation, business strategy, and market orientation on the business performance of SMEs in Riau Province, Indonesia. Using purposive sampling, survey data was collected from a sample of 123 SME owner-managers. Data analysis using partial least squares structural equation modeling showed that financial technology, innovation, business strategy, and market orientation significantly affect the business performance of SMEs. SME owner-managers use financial technology to make new breakthroughs through innovation, implement more diverse business strategies, and improve market orientation. The findings suggest that long-term digital technology development strategies are required as a platform for SMEs to grow.

SMEs’ Export Performance: The Effect of Learning Orientation and Innovativeness /jurnalpengurusan/article/smes-export-performance-the-effect-of-learning-orientation-and-innovativeness/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=smes-export-performance-the-effect-of-learning-orientation-and-innovativeness Sat, 08 Oct 2022 05:39:59 +0000 /jurnalpengurusan/?post_type=article&p=1823 This study investigates the role of innovativeness and learning orientation on the internationalisation performance of small and medium entrepreneurial firms. Exporting has been the most appropriate mode of expansion into foreign market for SMEs due to lower risk and less resource commitment. The literature insists that future study should pay more attention on how SMEs improve export performance. Review of literature brings to the conclusion that innovativeness and learning orientation are pertinent in building the success of SMEs in export markets. Notwithstanding the existing investigation on the impact of innovativeness on performance, the results are inconclusive, reinforcing the need for investigation in the context of emerging market and SMEs. In addition, learning orientation composed of three dimensions namely managerial commitment, system perspective and openness and experimentation. Previous studies view learning orientation as summate of all three dimensions. Unlike previous studies, this study investigates the effect of each dimension on innovativeness. A conceptual framework was developed based on the resource-based view. Data were collected from small and medium business exporters in the manufacturing sector of an emerging market. A total of 220 respondents participated in this study. Data were analysed using structural equation modeling to test the hypotheses, and the results show that innovativeness is positively related to export performance. In addition, the findings reveal that managerial commitment is a function of innovativeness. System perspective, and openness and experimentation have no significant effect on innovativeness. Implications and limitations are also discussed in this study.

Information Asymmetry and Industry 4.0 among Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) in Malaysian Halal Industry /jurnalpengurusan/article/information-asymmetry-and-industry-4-0-among-small-and-medium-enterprise-sme-in-malaysian-halal-industry/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=information-asymmetry-and-industry-4-0-among-small-and-medium-enterprise-sme-in-malaysian-halal-industry Fri, 07 Oct 2022 03:02:22 +0000 /jurnalpengurusan/?post_type=article&p=1744 This study attempts to investigate the participant(s) halal industry information asymmetry issues and their intention, if any, to mitigate it. Additionally, this study also investigates the moderating effects of their perceptions towards industry 4.0 adoption and their intentions of using industry 4.0 to mitigate information asymmetry. This research is exploratory research. We adapted the questionnaire based on “Agency Theory and the Technology Acceptance Model” by combining management and technology literature into single-sourced literature. The research using the SmartPLS software “Partial Least Squares (PLS)” modelling and the 2-step approach to test the model development. The concepts of private information, hidden information, and the lack of perfect information have facilitated these companies’ top management intentions to mitigate these information asymmetry issues. The results also show that the top management of halal industry has the intention to reduce information asymmetry through industry 4.0 adoption as they perceived industry 4.0 is useful, easy to use, is cost affordable, and provides a high system and content quality.

Social Networks and Entrepreneurships – Does Personal Networks Matters? /jurnalpengurusan/article/social-networks-and-entrepreneurships-does-personal-networks-matters/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=social-networks-and-entrepreneurships-does-personal-networks-matters Fri, 07 Oct 2022 01:47:17 +0000 /jurnalpengurusan/?post_type=article&p=1673 Institutional and social network are several major research traditions in the business and management areas. This paper examines the role of owner/managers’ social network on entrepreneurship initiatives and the underlying socio-cultural factors promoting or impeding SME development in Kazakhstan. A semi-structured interviews were carried-out with thirteen SME owners/managers in Almaty Kazakhstan. It is found that personal networks in general social networks have significant implications on a variety of entrepreneurial activities. SMEs still need to utilize their personal social networks to substitute for formal institutions. Normative institutional elements such as legal and moral are still major factors driving entrepreneurial activities but still lagging behind regulative and cognitive institutional transformation. Business ties and networking ability may mitigate the necessity for external financing. One of the major implication in this study is the need for SME owners/managers to build personal networks and to keep and maintain this network with their peers as well as the government not only for extra information but even for the sustainability of their business. To do this, SME owners/managers need to be regularly in contact with their peers and government officials, offering helps when needed, collaborate on projects, share their goals, get connected on social media and also joining networking events.
