BESTARI JAYA, 7 October 2019 鈥 A zero waste concept palm oil will soon be available in Malaysia to keep the industry sustainable thus will make it eco-friendly.听 A research partnership between Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (每日大赛app) and Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD) has developed the pilot project and led by Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sobri who is also a Co-Chair of 每日大赛app-YSD Sustainable Development Chair: Zero Waste Technology.

Mohd Sobri said the potential as a new source of energy. He also added the pilot project does not only serve its research mission but also can increase the country’s oil palm future productivity and sustainability.

鈥淲e are proud to share our research finding as one of the best models in palm oil processing waste management with a zero waste method. All the zero waste will be recycled to make a product that can benefit others. For example, palm kernel can now be used in the agricultural sector as organic fertilizers and other products as well,鈥 he said.

鈥淚 hope this research can guide existing oil mills to make changes in neutral green technology and zero waste,鈥 he said

Meanwhile, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation, Prof. Dato鈥 Ir. Dr. Abdul Wahab Mohammad, who is also a co-researcher said the research is focused on renewable energy production, carbon dioxide gas capture, organic fertilizer production and recycling of wastewater, and solid waste generated in palm oil processing.

鈥淭he success of 每日大赛app and YSD researchers should be honoured as not all parties can provide the most effective solution to solving the palm oil industry’s waste problems and affecting the environment.

鈥淎ll waste was transformed into renewable sources for future use. For example, the waste from oil palm was turned into organic fertilizer that could be used for agricultural activities,鈥 he said.

BANGI, 20 September 2019 – A research on complex smart system by a local academician from 每日大赛app is now enjoying success in Dubai.

Started as a PhD research project, the researcher behind the breakthrough is Associate Professor Dr. Mohamad Hanif Saad, who started the project in 2011. Currently, CAISER is now widely used by the Perbadanan Putrajaya ICT.

鈥淭his development system is called SONAR and it is connected to more than 350 network-related systems in Putrajaya. It monitors the operations of the Perbadanan Putrajaya鈥檚 main network and provides alerts and notifications to technical teams when the computer network is in trouble or is expected to encounter any problems so that corrective actions can be taken early,鈥 he said.

鈥淲e found that CAISER adapters have their own strength. There is an increasing demand for CAISER RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) from industry as it is also used to obtain field data for various applications such as environmental monitoring (used in Putrajaya) as well as temperature and humidity monitoring in buildings (currently used in some government offices and industry as well as in the hospital operating room).鈥

He has started the research project while pursuing his PhD at 每日大赛app under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Aini Hussein. After almost eight years, CAISER has finally gained a recognition in the industry. He also added the key factors in CAISER’s success is the acceptance and cooperation from users.

鈥淚f not because their support, we couldn鈥檛 have done it. Malaysians tend to be sceptical in local products.

鈥淲hen we have customers who trust us, we will do our best. We will bring the technology from 每日大赛app to give benefit to all. We thanked Perbadanan Putrajaya for the chance to carry out the project. That’s where the history of CAISER applications outside of 每日大赛app begins.

CAISER is a platform technology that creates a smart system using the Complex Event Processing (CEP). CAISER has three main components; data acquisition from the environment, detectors and event processors and implementing mitigation actions.

Among other adapters are surveillance robot adapters, smart CCTV adapters, RTU adapters, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) adapters, and communication adapters via Telegram.

鈥淣ow it is widely used in several locations in Dubai through the development and marketing of our industry partner, Enomatriks Solution Sdn Bhd. With the help of Enomatriks Solutions Sdn Bhd’s talented engineers and programmers, CAISER technology has been successfully refined and expanded internationally to match other technologies in the market,鈥 he explained.

BANGI, 22 February 2019 鈥 In ensuring that fireflies are preserved, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (每日大赛app), has conducted a study of the insects and received the largest fireflies research fund in Malaysia.

Chief Researcher of the Fireflies Habitat Conservation Project (KELIP2@每日大赛app Group) Kampung Dew, Prof. Madya Dr. Norela Sulaiman said the research is funded by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) (RM1.09 million). The research covers three spotted conservation areas, namely Kampung Dew, Semanggol, Perak; Yak Yah, Kemaman, Terengganu and Kampung Sg. Timun, Rembau, Negeri Sembilan.

鈥淭his research covers the diversity studies of fireflies and insects, riverbank plants associated with fireflies. In addition, the research is also focused on land usage affecting firefly habitats in each study area.

鈥淢oreover, the study covers the air quality in every river that affects the berembang tree (scientific name: Sonneratia caseoralis) and the study of birds, bats and aquatic life involved with the health of mangrove ecosystems is also done,鈥 she said.

She said the effort of replanting berembang trees is hoped to increase the population of fireflies in each study area that eventually improve the socio-economy of the locals through boat rental to bring ecotourism tourists who came to see the fireflies.

Prof. Madya Dr. Norela said the villagers involved should be proud because the firefly habitat is unique, not all countries in the world are blessed with this firefly.

鈥淔ireflies in Malaysia describe among those who have been successfully restored following community awareness to conserve ecosystems where fireflies breed.

鈥淔ireflies in Malaysia are also very unique as they flash simultaneously,鈥 she explained.

She said among the main species of fireflies studied were the Pteroptyx tener, the flickers flashing simultaneously with 3.7 perimeter per second found in all rivers studied, as well as Pteroptyx malaccae which also flashed simultaneously but were not found in all the rivers studied.

The Pteroptyx valida species of fireflies in the Sungai Sepetang, fireflies Pteroptyx assymmetria and Pteroptyx malaccae on the Sungai Rembau and Pteroptyx valida and Pteroptyx malaccae species in the Sungai Chukai are among examples of fireflies that not flickering flashes simultaneously.

In addition to the three areas supported by TNB, the KELIP2@每日大赛app Group has also conducted studies throughout Malaysia. In the peninsula, the area is in Kota Tinggi, Johor; Kampung Kuantan, Kuala Selangor; Selangor, Kampung Sungai Panjang, Sabak Bernam, Selangor; Kampung Paya Lebar, Melaka; Kampung Hulu Melaka, Langkawi; Lake Chini, Pahang and Kuala Woh, Perak.

In Sarawak, the researched areas are Sungai Raan, Sungai Sibuti, and Sungai Niah, all of which are in Miri.

CHERAS, 21 February 2019 鈥 The largest Biobank in Southeast Asia that holds millions of blood and urine specimens for research studies is based on the Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (每日大赛appMC).

Pro Vice Chancellor 每日大赛app Kuala Lumpur Campus, Prof. Datuk Dr. A Rahman A Jamal said Biobank UMBI has 35 liquid nitrogen tanks with temperatures -196 degrees Celsius and 38 refrigerators with temperatures of -80 degrees Celsius.

鈥淲e have saved specimens of more than 120,000 volunteers across Malaysia. Each individual, we keep 45 blood tubes. The total number of blood tubes here (Biobank) is over six million tubes.

鈥淎ll the specimens in this Biobank are for research in various fields of medicine. This is a valuable source of research for our country. We need to be proud of the Biobank UMBI being a reference at the international level,鈥 he said.

He said Biobank UMBI establish in line with The Malaysian Cohort project, which is Malaysia’s largest health screening project approved by the Cabinet in 2005.

Prof. Datuk Dr. A Rahman said the biospecimen stored there (Biobank) is very valuable as research can be done in various fields.

鈥淔or example, if we want to study about the risk of genetics about diabetes (diabetic), we need big specimens. We need as many as 3,000 blood samples of diabetic patients and 3,000 blood samples of non-diabetes individuals to compare.

鈥淪o, if we don鈥檛 have a Biobank, we had to start with the collection of the samples. Now we already have a sample stored in Biobank. So, anyone who wants to do this kind of research does not need to take a long time,鈥 he explained.

Prof. Datuk Dr. A Rahman explained that the advantage of this Biobank is that Malaysia has three main ethnic groups – Malays, Chinese and Indians.

鈥淲e can make a direct comparison of the differences in the status of the disease of these three ethnic groups from what we see as physical and biological angles. There are not many other countries that have this kind of potential,” he said.

He is proud that 每日大赛app is mandated to lead The Malaysia Cohort and this Biobank is in 每日大赛app.

鈥淭o me, the value we see is how we provide opportunities for researchers from all over the country, whether the Public or Private University or the industry can jointly pinpoint this Biobank from the analysis point, whether it is a big data analysis or an analysis of the species that we there is,鈥 he said.
