Version: 4.0.47--><div class=\"newsitem_tools\">\n<div class=\"newsitem_info\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"createdate\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"border alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/images\/stories\/Campus_News_Picture\/suhal-small.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/>SUNDAY, 08 AUGUST 2010 15:56<br \/>\n<\/span><strong><strong>By Kuah Guan Oo<\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/strong>BANGI, Aug 8 \u00a02010 \u2013 The Islamic Banking system can prevent the sub-prime type of financial crisis that has bedeviled the Western world, says a Ph.D graduate who received his scroll during Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia\u2019s (每日大赛app) 38<sup>th<\/sup>Convocation here yesterday.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"newsitem_text\">\n<div class=\"news_item_article\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Suhal, 43, who is one of the 21 Indonesian scholars to be conferred their doctorate degrees by 每日大赛app, said he worked on his dissertation on International Islamic Fund for his Ph.D after joining the university in 2004.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt is a new industry that needs to be explored to see how it can contribute to the economy and industries,\u201d he said in an interview here.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his dissertation, he said, he evaluated the performance of International Islamic Fund, factors that influenced that performance like laws, objectives of investment, market structure, \u201cakar\u201d or contract characteristics and so on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Suhal who goes by only one name as is common in Indonesia, said his main conclusion was that if the performance of Islamic banking is good, people would change to it from conventional banking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also found that there was a significant increase in the operation of Islamic banking. \u201cIn 1980 to 1983, there were only one or two Islamic unit funds but today, there are more than 700, managed by more than 100 banks, including conventional banks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Suhal said in Islamic banking, a financial meltdown like the sub-prime mortgage crisis could not occur simply because the contract itself would avoid \u201cgharar\u201d or excessive uncertainties\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou also cannot have more than three parties in a contract in Islamic banking,\u201d he said, meaning\u00a0that one could not have a financial derivatives built upon another derivatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Suhal who is presently lecturing on Finance and Economics at Linton University College of Legenda Education Group in Mantin, is married with three children, two boys and a girl.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hailing from Bangkalen, Madura in East Java, he obtained his Bachelor degree from the University of Trunojoyo in Bangkalen and his Masters from the University of Padjadjaran in Bandung.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Asked why he chose 每日大赛app, he said it is one of the top and prestigious universities in the region. \u201cThe facilities are very satisfactory in terms of library, online journals and competent lecturers.
