To assist and guide trainees to acquire adequate knowledge in Paediatrics.<\/p>\n\n<p>2. To ensure that the trainees acquire the required clinical skills and are able to function<\/p>\n\n<p>independently as competent general paediatricians at the end of the programme.<\/p>\n\n<p>3. To provide opportunities and ensure that the trainees acquire the knowledge and skills in the management of acute paediatric and neonatal emergencies.<\/p>\n\n<p>4. To train and provide opportunities for the trainees to acquire and improve communication skills with patients, families, colleagues and other allied health professionals as well as in academic\u00a0 presentations and at medical meetings.<\/p>\n\n<p>5. Developing trainees who are able to evaluate and make decisions in clinical situations even with limited resources taking into consideration social and ethical issues.<\/p>\n\n<p>6. To train the trainees to acquire the knowledge and skills of conducting clinical research.<\/p>\n\n<p>7. To inculcate proper professional attitudes towards their work, their patients and families, and colleagues at work.<\/p>\n\n<p>8. To train candidates in leadership and management skills.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Entry Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The requirements for admission as a candidate for the programme are as follows:-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MMC registration certificate<\/li>\n\n<li>Completion of house-officer training certificate<\/li>\n\n<li>A certified report showing proof of completion of 4 months of paediatric posting as a<br \/>House-officer or medical officer<\/li>\n\n<li>Documentation of successful completion of ALL required Paediatric Entrustable Professional Activities\/ Essential Learning Activities -EPAs\/ELAs (please refer to MOH website \u2013 Pembangunan Kerjaya Pegawai Perubatan)<\/li>\n\n<li>Evidence of passing the Malaysian Paediatric Entrance Examination (MEDEX) OR MRCPCH part 1b OR 2a within the last 5 years prior to application<\/li>\n\n<li><br \/><strong>For international trainees, the requirements for admission as a candidate for the programme are as follows:<\/strong><\/li>\n\n<li>MMC registration certificate (Temporary Practicing Certificate)<\/li>\n\n<li>Documentation of housemanship training or its equivalent<\/li>\n\n<li>Evidence of English language proficiency (IELTS 7 or equivalent)<\/li>\n\n<li>A certified report showing proof of completion of 4 months of paediatric posting as a<br \/>House-officer or medical officer<\/li>\n\n<li>Documentation of successful completion of ALL required Paediatric Entrustable Professional Activities\/ Essential Learning Activities -EPAs\/ELAs (please refer to MOH website \u2013 Pembangunan Kerjaya Pegawai Perubatan)<\/li>\n\n<li>Evidence of passing the Malaysian Paediatric Entrance Examination (MEDEX) OR MRCPCH part 1b OR 2a within the last 5 years prior to application<br \/>Duration of Study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The duration of study will be four (4) full years as a full-time student.<\/li>\n\n<li>The maximum duration of study shall not exceed seven (7) years.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p>1. Possess a medical degree (M.D., M.B.B.S., M.B.Ch.B) or equivalent qualifications from universities recognized by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).<\/p>\n\n<p>2. Registered for medical practice by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) under the Medical (Amendment) Act 2012 and Medical Regulations 2017. For non-Malaysian candidates, he\/she must obtain a Practicing Certificate from country of origin as well as Temporary Practicing Certificate\u00a0 from MMC. They must have at least one-year clinical experience after full registration approved by the MMC.<\/p>\n\n<p>3. The candidate must pass the Malaysian Paediatric Entrance Examination or MRCPCH part 1b or 2a.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Duration of Study<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>1. The duration of study will be four (4) full years as a full time student.<\/p>\n\n<p>2. During the first year, students are also expected to familiarize themselves with the diagnosis and management of common paediatric conditions. Candidates will undergo clinical clerkships under supervision. Candidates should use the syllabus guide provided in the manual for self-study.<\/p>\n\n<p>Candidates must have attended the Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP)<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Year 2 and 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The 2nd and 3rd year comprises of training in different disciplines of Paediatrics which includes General Paediatrics, Developmental Paediatrics, Paediatric Intensive Care, Community Paediatrics, Respiratory, Gastroenterology &amp; Hepatology, Cardiology, Haematology and Oncology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Metabolic Diseases, Endocrinology, Genetics, Neurology, Nephrology, Neonatology and Adolescent Paediatrics. The general objective is to enable students to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate for the management of patients in the various paediatric disciplines which will be useful in their general paediatric practice.<\/p>\n\n<p>The candidate is also required to do a research project, starting with literature search,<\/p>\n\n<p>followed by the study proposal, application for appropriate funding, getting ethical committee approval and reporting on the progress of the project to the supervisor and final presentation to the department at the scheduled time.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Year 4<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Year 4 consists of further advanced training in paediatrics. The trainee who has passed the Part II Examination and completed 3 years of clinical training is expected to function more independently under the supervision of the lecturer\/consultant.<\/p>\n<p><br \/><strong>Before completion of the programme, the candidate has to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><br \/>1. Be a Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) provider<\/p>\n<p><br \/>2. Be a NRP provider<\/p>\n<p><br \/>3. Attend a Basic Statistics and research methodology course (organized by the respective universities)<\/p>\n<p><br \/><strong>Before completion of the programme, the candidate is recommended to attend the following courses:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><br \/>1. Communication\/ Soft Skills<\/p>\n<p><br \/>2. Bioethics<\/p>\n<p><br \/>3. Scientific writing<\/p>\n<p><br \/>4.
