Over the years, ASEAN universities have gained global prominence. In establishing their positions as the world class universities, a strong leadership with a clear direction is required. This webinar aims at discussing the high performance culture within higher education institutions through values-based leadership. Among the key discussions is on creating a corporate culture for universities, dealing with various stakeholders, change management and dealing with crisis. As the global economy is undergoing uncertain times and challenges, universities are expected to explore various avenues in dealing with these changes. In dealing with these obstacles, there is a strong need of values-based leadership in determining clear directions and visions in facing the new frontier. As transformation of universities are expected, the task of narrating these changes to stakeholders and empowering the team members to uphold the values and embrace new ideas can be overwhelming.<\/p>\n

<\/td>\nDanial Abdul Rahman<\/strong> is Press Secretary to Malaysia\u2019s Finance Minister. Currently, he is in the thick of action in the rolling out of Malaysia\u2019s various economic stimulus packages \u2013 PRIHATIN and PENJANA -- worth RM295 billion. These packages are aimed at stimulating Malaysia\u2019s economy which has been severely impacted by COVID-19. This includes various incentives to protect and support jobs, as well as upskill and reskill the people.\n

Having started his career as a lawyer, Danial has worked in policy, technology, and education, serving both Malaysia\u2019s Education and Higher Education Ministries. An avid writer, he has been a columnist for TheStar, Malaysia\u2019s no.1 English daily, since 2014. Recently, he hosted his own TV show on BERNAMA (Malaysia\u2019s National News Agency) where he interviewed CEOs, professors, social media influencers, and communications experts.<\/p>\n

In 2016 he was a US State Department IVLP fellow and studied the role of political communications within the electoral process. Danial is often invited to give talks and share his views on artificial intelligence and technology trends, media and fake news, as well as education and society. He has conducted training across the region on crisis communication, public speaking and debating.<\/p>\n

Danial has a postgraduate degree in law from Oxford University.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

<\/td>\nProfessor Tan Eng Chye<\/strong> was appointed President of the National University of Singapore (NUS) on 1 January 2018. He is the University\u2019s 5th president, and the 23rd leader to head Singapore\u2019s oldest higher education institution.\n

Prof Tan is a passionate and award-winning educator. He was a pioneer architect of the current academic system in NUS, and has seeded many initiatives such as the Special Programme in Science, University Scholars Programme, University Town Residential College Programme, Grade-free Year, and Technology-enhanced Education. He was recognised with the University Teaching Award for Innovative Teaching in 1998, and was President of the Singapore Mathematical Society (2001 to 2005) as well as the South East Asian Mathematical Society (2004 to 2005).<\/p>\n

Prof Tan is a member of the Singapore\u2019s Future Economy Council, which is tasked with driving the growth and transformation of the country\u2019s future economy. He is on the boards of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR); National Research Foundation (NRF); and NUS High School of Mathematics and Sciences. He is also on the International Advisory Council of the Southern University of Science and Technology in China, and an advisor with the think tank The Conference Board.<\/p>\n

Prof Tan received the Public Administration Medal (Gold) at Singapore's National Day Awards in 2014 for his outstanding contributions to education. He was awarded the Wilbur Lucius Cross Medal, which honours exceptional alumni in the areas of scholarship, teaching, academic administration and public service, by Yale University in 2018. Prof Tan was also conferred an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Southampton in 2018 in recognition of his achievements as \u201can innovative and exceptional teacher, and then as a distinguished and respected leader in academia\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

<\/td>\nBorn in Muar, Johor in 1971, Professor Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor<\/strong> received his B.Eng. (Mechanical), with Honours from Imperial College London and his M.Sc. In Advanced Manufacturing Technology & System Management from University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST). His Doctoral study was in the field of thin film coating for biomedical applications for which he was conferred Dr. Eng by Kyoto University. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineering, UK, and a professional engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. He is also a Charted Engineer with the Engineering Council UK. He spent a year as a visiting Professor at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2015-2016.\n

Professor Hamdi started his academic career at the University Malaya in 1995 as a tutor and later joined the Department of Engineering Design and Manufacture in 1997 as a lecturer and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006 and Professor in 2010, at the age of 39.<\/p>\n

He is the Head and Founder of the Centre of Advanced Manufacturing and Material Processing (AMMP Centre), University of Malaya. He founded and heads a recently formed Centre for Research in Industry 4.0 (CRI4.0). He has held various academic positions throughout his career in UM. He was once appointed as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International) (2011-2014), Dean of Engineering Faculty (2009-2011), and Head of Department (2003-2006).<\/p>\n

Professor Hamdi has devoted his career in nurturing research and innovation and has mentored over 150 postgraduate students, particularly in the field of advanced manufacturing and material processing. He has supervised 66 PhD students to date. He has authored more than 160 ISI journals and having a h-index of 26. He founded the Centre of Advanced Manufacturing and Material Processing (AMMP Centre) in 2003, which has grown from a modest-sized team of researchers and engineers to an interdisciplinary research hub. Professor Hamdi has shown exemplary leadership qualities during his tenure as the Head of the Department of Engineering Design & Manufacture (2003-2006) and the Dean of Engineering (2009-2011). He has led the transition team to transform the Faculty of Engineering to be one of the highest achieving faculties in the University. In his position as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International) he has strategized a marked transformation in the academics and has significantly pushed the university into the limelight at the international level.<\/p>\n

Professor Hamdi was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia on the 1st of January 2019. He was conferred as the 每日大赛app ROTU Commandant on 30th December 2019. He was also conferred the awards of Johan Mangku Negara (JMN) by DYMM Yang Di-Pertuan Agong on 12th November 2019 oleh Agong and Darjah Dato\u2019 Paduka Negeri Sembilan (DPNS) by DYMM Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan on 14th January 2020.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

<\/td>\nDatin Dr. Anita B Z<\/strong> Abdul Aziz<\/strong> was appointed as Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) on 28 January 2016. Anita is UBD\u2019s 7th Vice Chancellor and the first female to head the university.\n

Under Anita\u2019s leadership, new initiatives have included the setting up of the Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L) which offers programmes employing flexible learning in terms of pace, place and pathway. Among other key initiatives are establishment of the Institute of Data Analytics, FPT-UBD Innovation Lab, UBD Botanical Research Centre, UBD Start-Up Centre and UBD\u2019s first overseas campus, UBD-FPT Global Centre in Da Nang, Vietnam. Anita also led UBD to its debut entry into the QS World University Rankings in 2017 and Times Higher Education World University Rankings in 2019.<\/p>\n

Prior to joining UBD, Anita was the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education of Brunei Darussalam. Previously, Anita was at UBD and held various senior leadership posts including Assistant Vice Chancellor & Vice President (Global Affairs), Assistant Vice Chancellor & Vice President (Education & Internationalisation) and Dean of Medicine.<\/p>\n

Anita is a clinical academic in the field of Reproductive Medicine and Biology. She graduated from the University of Glasgow with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) in 1993 and then trained in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the UK. Anita is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG). Anita also worked in the IVF Wolfson Clinic, Hammersmith Hospital, London during which Anita carried out clinical and scientific research at the Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology which led to a PhD from Imperial College, London. Anita is also an Honorary Professor of Leadership at Swansea University, UK (since 2018).<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

\"\"<\/td>\n<\/td>\nProfessor Ir. Panut Mulyono <\/strong>was appointed as a Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in 2017. He served as Dean of Faculty of Engineering UGM in 2012-2016 and in 2016 was re-elected as a Dean. He is a Professor of energy science in the field of chemical engineering system optimization at Gadjah Mada University. He graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan in 1990 and obtained his doctorate at the same university in 1993. He serves as a Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, UGM. He also serves as the Expert Board of UGM Energy Studies Center. In the field of research, he produced various research published in scientific publications in national seminars, international seminars, national journals, and international journals. In addition to actively contributing to education and research, he also went directly to the community to participate in community service activities. In professional organizations, he is currently listed as a member of professional organizations such as the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) and The Association of Chemical Engineers of Japan.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
