What we do"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a body that is committed to research on natural disasters, its prevention and mitigation, we strive to deliver our mission goals, both regionally and internationally, through (a) Research; (b) Education &amp; Training; (c) Workshop &amp; Training Courses; and (d) Outreach &amp; Networking activities.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">a) Research<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Our main core activities being research-based, our approach is holistic and integrated (science, technology, impact, vulnerability &amp; governance). The ultimate objective is always to prevent or better manage the effects of hazards, be they <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Climatic Hazards<\/strong><\/span>,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Geological Hazards<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0or\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Technological Hazards<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Climatic Hazards<\/strong><\/span>: Conduct research and strengthen capacity to support the national agenda on adaptation to extreme weather and climate change. The focus of research includes disaster prevention, risk reduction and management, post-disaster recovery and reconstruction. Aspects taken into account are science and technology for disaster risk reduction, socio-economic impacts and vulnerability assessments, education and awareness as well as governance for human security and sustainability.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Geological Hazards<\/strong><\/span>: Also, geohazards, include all geological or hydrological processes. Geological hazards include earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, slope failures, debris flows, subsidence and sinkholes. Aims to strengthen the emerging international strategy for disaster mitigation and prevention. To shift the focus of current practices, from a responsive to a more preventive approach.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Technological Hazards<\/strong><\/span>: Our research is currently focused on reducing chemical hazards, which is a relatively unexplored field in the Asian region. This is in line with the priority of the government in establishing an efficient national system on chemical management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\"><em>see also<\/em><\/span> <a title=\"Core Business - Research Programmes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/seadpri\/?page_id=48\">Research Programme<\/a> and <a title=\"Research Project\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/seadpri\/?page_id=307\">Projects<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">b) Education and Training<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The main education activity is in the form of Postgraduate courses. Presently SEADPRI offers graduate research programmes in Masters and Doctoral\/ PhD levels which involves studies relating to disaster in the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Policy and Disaster Management<\/li>\n<li>Climatic Hazards<\/li>\n<li>Geological Hazards<\/li>\n<li>Technological Hazards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\"><em>see also<\/em><\/span> <a title=\"SEADPRI Postgraduate Courses\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/seadpri\/?page_id=50\">Postgraduate Programme<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">c) Workshop and Training Courses<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We also conduct workshops and training courses on specialised subjects pertaining to the fields of environmental and technological hazards, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and policy, governance and disaster management.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\"><em>see also<\/em><\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/seadpri\/?cat=5\">Workshop-Training Courses<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">d) Outreach and Networking<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In order to develop knowledge and disseminate information and technology. We collaborate with other agencies and institutions to synergise expertise.
