DNA Day commemorates two landmark scientific achievements: the ðð¢ð¬ðœð¨ð¯ðžð«ð² ð¨ðŸ ð­ð¡ðž ðƒðð€ ðð¨ð®ð›ð¥ðž ð¡ðžð¥ð¢ð± ð¬ð­ð«ð®ðœð­ð®ð«ðž ð›ð² ð‰ðšð¦ðžð¬ ð–ðšð­ð¬ð¨ð§ ðšð§ð ð…ð«ðšð§ðœð¢ð¬ ð‚ð«ð¢ðœð¤ ð¢ð§ ðŸðŸ—ðŸ“ðŸ‘, and the completion of the ð‡ð®ð¦ðšð§ ð†ðžð§ð¨ð¦ðž ðð«ð¨ð£ðžðœð­ ð¢ð§ ðŸðŸŽðŸŽðŸ‘. Under the expert guidance of her supervisors, Ts. Dr. Mohamad Aimanuddin Mohtar, Ts. Dr. Saiful Effendi Syafruddin and Dr. Muhammad Redha Abdullah Zawawi, Ms. Yuh Chai presented her sophisticated research titled, “ð‚ð‘ðˆð’ðð‘-ððšð¬ðžð ð“ðžðœð¡ð§ð¨ð¥ð¨ð ð¢ðžð¬ ðŸð¨ð« ð­ð¡ðž ðˆððžð§ð­ð¢ðŸð¢ðœðšð­ð¢ð¨ð§ ð¨ðŸ ð“ð«ðšð§ð¬ðœð«ð¢ð©ð­ð¢ð¨ð§ðšð¥ ð‘ðžð ð®ð¥ðšð­ð¨ð«ð² ð„ð¥ðžð¦ðžð§ð­ð¬ ð¢ð§ ðƒð«ð¢ð¯ð¢ð§ð  ð€ð†ð‘ðŸ ð†ðžð§ðž ðŽð¯ðžð«ðžð±ð©ð«ðžð¬ð¬ð¢ð¨ð§ ð¢ð§ ðð«ðžðšð¬ð­ ð‚ðšð§ðœðžð«.” Her work leverages cutting-edge gene-editing tools to unravel the complexities of breast cancer progression, offering vital insights into how specific genetic drivers can be identified and potentially targeted.

We were honored to host Dr. Ewa Choy (Head of Division – Genetic Engineering, Cryocord Sdn. Bhd.) and Dr. Chin Xiao-Teng (Technical Services Director, Impaco LTD). Their participation highlights the importance of bridging the gap between academic discovery and industrial application, ensuring that high-level research like Ms. Yuh Chai’s remains grounded in real-world clinical and biotechnological needs.

Ms. Yuh Chai’s journey toward this final presentation has been defined by international recognition and academic excellence. Recipient of the prestigious King’s Scholarship (Biasiswa Yang di-Pertuan Agong), her dedication to her field has earned her esteemed travel grants to South Korea, New Zealand, and France, where she represented UMBI-ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp and shared her findings on a global stage. These accolades are a testament to the caliber of her work and her commitment to advancing cancer research.

We would like to formally acknowledge Ms. Yuh Chai for her unwavering perseverance and the high standard of scholarship she has maintained throughout her candidature. As she moves into the final stages of her journey, we wish her the very best of luck with her final thesis preparation and her upcoming viva voce. Initiated as early as 2009 and revisited in 2017, the effort reflects a strong collaboration between UMBI, the Infection Control Unit, and the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. Moving beyond conventional bacterial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing, her work focuses on identifying circulating genotypes within hospital settings. She also shared regional insights comparing MRSA trends across Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, and introduced the Swiss cheese model as a framework to understand gaps in AMR control.

30 January 2026 – UMBI Research Update Series (RUS) in Molecular Medicine No. 3/2026 featured Industrial Training student, Ms. Puteri Najihah Mat Latip from the ð…ðšðœð®ð¥ð­ð² ð¨ðŸ ð€ð©ð©ð¥ð¢ðžð ð’ðœð¢ðžð§ðœðžð¬, ð”ð¢ð“ðŒ, UiTM (Bachelor in Bio-Molecular Science (Hons)), titled ðð«ðžð¯ðšð¥ðžð§ðœðž ð¨ðŸ ððžð®ð­ð«ðšð¥ð¢ð³ð¢ð§ð  ð€ð§ð­ð¢ð›ð¨ðð¢ðžð¬ ð€ð ðšð¢ð§ð¬ð­ ð’ð€ð‘ð’-ð‚ð¨ð•-ðŸ ð–ð¢ð¥ð-ð“ð²ð©ðž ð¢ð§ ð‚ðŽð•ðˆðƒ-ðŸðŸ— ððšð­ð¢ðžð§ð­ð¬ ð¢ð§ ðŒðšð¥ðšð²ð¬ð¢ðš.

Her mini project was supervised by Dr. Nor Azila Muhammad Azami and Ms. Fara Zela Mohd Radin, with the session summarised by Dr. Azila, and attended by UiTM visiting lecturer, Dr. Muhd Hanis Md. Idris.
