Prof. Wolfgang-Martin Boerner
Wolfgang-Martin Boerner (IEEE SM鈥75-F鈥84, LF鈥92) was born in Finschhafen, Papua New Guinea in 1937, spent his childhood in Oceania & Austral-Asia, received the B.S. (Abitur) degree from the August von Platen Gymnasium, Ansbach, Germany; the M.S. (Dipl.-Ing.) degree in Communications & Electromagnetic Wave Engineering from the Technical University of Munich, Bavaria, Germany; and the Ph.D. degree in Electromagnetic Engineering Sciences from the Moore School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 1958, 1963, and 1967, respectively.
He is currently involved actively in international outreach programs in Europe, Oceania and Pacific Asia, where he was 鈥 for example – the Distinguished Senior Visiting Professor at the Tohoku University, Center for Northeast Asian Studies in Sendai, Japan during Spring 2003 and summer 2011; he holds the Distinguished Visiting Chair Professor (2004) position of the National Central University of Taiwan in Chung-Li, Taiwan; the Distinguished Visiting Chair Professor position of 鈥濼he Electromagnetics Academy鈥 of Zhejiang University at Hangzhou in China 鈥 involved in the 鈥渁dvancement of extra-wideband polarimetric imaging radar & SAR theory and technology鈥: the Honorary Consulting Professor of the Fudan University, Key Laboratory of Wave Scattering and Remote Sensing Information, at Yang-pu, Shanghai in China 鈥 engaged in 鈥渢he assessment of multi-band polarimetric feature detection and identification for polarimetric imaging radar and POL-IN-SAR theory and its applications.鈥 Professor Boerner serves as the IEEE-GRSS Outreach Liaison for SE-Asia and India engaged in enticing GRSS related research expertise utilization at its major research centers.
