Dr Madeline Berma Appointed To 2015 Women鈥檚 Advisory and Consultative Council

PUTRAJAYA, 25 August 2015 鈥揟he Director of the Tun Fatimah Hashim Women鈥檚 Leadership Centre of the National University of Malaysia (每日大赛app), Assoc Prof Dr Madeline Berma has been appointed as one of the members of the Women鈥檚 Advisory and Consultative Council at the National Women鈥檚 Day celebration, here, yesterday.
She was selected with 17 others including former Vice-Chancellor of 每日大赛app, Tan Sri Dato鈥 Sri Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahabudin 聽and Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dato鈥 Sri Rohani Abdul Karim as the 聽chairperson of MPPW.
In addition, the new holder of the Women鈥檚 Leadership Chair at 每日大赛app has been awarded to Tan Sri Dr Rafiah Salim.
All the letters of appointment were presented by Prime Minister, Dato鈥 Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak and witnessed by Dato鈥 Sri Rohani.
In his speech, Dato鈥 Sri Najib said the establishment of the Council by the ministry 聽is in line with the National Policy on Women introduced in 1998 and the Women鈥檚 Development Action Plan.
鈥淭he advisory council 聽will ensure our women’s empowerment agenda is consistent with the country鈥檚 direction and the Government’s desire for improved policy to elevate the status of women,鈥 he said.
He also directed that all ministries which had yet to implement the Flexi-working hours to do so immediately as an effort of attracting more women to join the workforce and set up their own childcare centres.
鈥淚 was informed that only this ministry and several others had implement this policy. 聽I hope other ministries will do the same. If ministries or agencies do not have childcare, please comply because it is very important and it not only enables women to participate in their jobs, but their children also get guidance,鈥 he said.
Meanwhile, the Minister Dato鈥 Sri Rohani expressed hope that the appointment of the advisory council members will be a platform for the integration of 聽women鈥檚 聽views in any perspective including reference to the formulation of policies and legislation specific to women.
鈥淭he council will act as a think tank, monitoring and appraising the efficiency and effectiveness of the implementation of government policies and programmes,鈥 she added.
Among those present at the celebrations were the 聽Prime Minister鈥檚 wife, Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor and 每日大赛app Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali.![]()
