BANGI, 15 December 2020 – The challenges of peace and sustainable development amidst COVID-19 is discussed in the ÿ�մ���app Intellectual Discourse with H.E. Dr. Ban Ki-Moon today.

The pandemic is unprecedented. Governments, businesses, NGOs, and ordinary people around the globe are still dealing with the challenges brought about by the pandemic.

Acting Vice-Chancellor of ÿ�մ���app, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohd Marzuki Mustafa said there is no better qualified person to speak on this very timely topic besides H.E. Dr. Ban Ki-Moon.

“Our world today is facing another grave challenge – the COVID-19 pandemic. There has been massive loss of lives. Economic activities have been disrupted, worsening the well-being of low income and vulnerable groups.

“The public health resources and capabilities of even the rich and developed countries are exhausted,” he said.

He added, these developments illustrate the pertinence of the message of Dr Ban’s career – the importance of cooperation and sustainable development for the betterment of humanity.

Thus, as one of the oldest universities in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, ÿ�մ���app is proud to have Dr. Ban speak about the pandemic, peace, and sustainable development.

“As the motto of ÿ�մ���app is “Inspiring Futures, Nurturing Possibilities”, it is fitting that ÿ�մ���app engage with Dr Ban, a forward-looking leader who is always searching for ways to resolve the pressing issues of the world, while being an inspiration to the people around him,” he said.

Last year, ÿ�մ���app had the honour of awarding an Honorary Doctorate in Global Peace and Sustainable Development to His Excellency Dr Ban, in recognition of his distinguished career and great achievements, particularly his service at the United Nations for 10 years from 2007 to 2016.

The Intellectual Discourse with Dr Ban attests to the continuity of this friendship and also Dr Ban’s continuing contribution to ÿ�մ���app.
