Programme Overview
The Malaysian medical specialist postgraduate training programme in Radiology aims to achieve two key goals: to train radiologists who provide safe and effective diagnostic support from the outset of their careers and to inspire lifelong learning through the continuous development of subspecialty expertise.
The clinical master’s programme is offered by the Department of Radiology and comprises coursework and a dissertation. It is a full-time programme spanning a minimum of 4 years (8 semesters), and a maximum of 7 years (14 semesters).

Admission Requirements:
General:
- Medical degree from a university recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
- Two years of clinical experience after graduation.
- Possess a full registration certificate and annual practising certificate from MMC.
- Pass the Medical Specialist Pre-entrance Examination (MedEx). Official website –

Additional requirements for international/overseas candidates
- English proficiency level: IELTS score of at least 6.5 or equivalent
- Undergo clinical observership for a minimum of 3 months in the Department of Radiology, HCTM
- Recommendation letters from at least 2 referees, preferably supervisors who are specialists.

Medical Specialist Pre-entrance Examination (MedEx)
Overview
a) MedEx is established by the Medical Deans Council of Malaysia as a uniform system of pre-entrance examinations, conducted jointly with the Malaysian Examinations Council (MEC), which requires separate exam fees.
b)Â Â Â Â Radiology MedEx is conducted once yearly. Please check the MedEx website for the latest exam date:
Examination structure
a)Â Â Â Â 50 multiple choice questions of True-False format.
b)Â Â Â Â Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes.
c)Â Â Â Â The examination will cover the following:
-Radiological anatomy
-Techniques and procedures in radiology
-Clinical radiology
Radiology Entrance Exam (REE)
Examination structure
a)Â Â Â Â This exam consists of 2 components held on the same day in one setting
1.    OSCE
2.    Rapid Film Reporting
b)Â Â Â Â Syllabus covered: basic radiological anatomy, radiological techniques, and emergency radiographs.
c)    Venue: depends on the exam host of the year, predetermined by the Conjoint Board of Radiology. It can be held in Kuala Lumpur (ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp / UM / UPM), Kelantan (USM), Pahang (UIA) or Negeri Sembilan (KPJUC).
d)    Date: once every year, usually January – February.
e)Â Â Â Â Exam registration: government candidates apply through the Malaysian Ministry of Health, private candidates through the universities they applied for. Not open for direct registration. Candidates must pass MedEx in advance.
Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
a)Â Â Â Â 20 film exhibits in powerpoint format
b)Â Â Â Â Duration 60 minutes
c)Â Â Â Â Questions related to radiography, radiographic anatomy and radiological techniques.
d)Â Â Â Â Candidates are to write their answers in the provided answer sheets using black/blue ball pens.
Rapid Film Reporting
a)Â Â Â Â 25 plain radiographs (mixture of normal & abnormal cases) in DICOM / powerpoint format
b)Â Â Â Â Duration 30 minutes
c)Â Â Â Â Candidates are to determine whether a case is normal or abnormal. If abnormal, a diagnosis should be given.
d)Â Â Â Â Cases are normally those encountered in an emergency setting.
e)Â Â Â Â Candidates are to write their answers in the provided answer sheets using black/blue ball pens.
Radiology Entrance Interview
An interview is the final step in the programme’s admissions process. Candidates will be called for an interview after passing the REE, either by MOH (for government candidates) or by ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp (for private candidates who applied through ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp before the REE).

Medical Specialist Pre-entrance Examination (MedEx) and Radiology Entrance Exam (REE), are they different?
Yes, MedEx and REE are two different exams. MedEx is conducted jointly by the Medical Deans Council of Malaysia and the Malaysian Examinations Council (MEC) as a uniform system of pre-entrance examinations, which requires a fee. REE and interview are organised by the Conjoint Board of Radiology. Candidates for REE are shortlisted from those who passed the MedEx exam. As of now, REE is free of charge.
Can I sit for REE / MedEx before the completion of clinical observership? (Applicable for international candidates)
Yes, you can sit for the exam before or while doing the clinical observership.
Clinical observership is not a guarantee of admission into the Master of Radiology programme; you still need to fulfil the required admission checklist for international candidates.
Do I need to clear the exams before the interview?
Yes, you need to pass both MedEx and REE before you will be called for the interview.

How can I register for REE?
You cannot directly register for REE. REE is a closed exam; only shortlisted candidates who have passed MedEx will be called to sit for the exam. Those who applied to join the program through ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp will have their names submitted to the exam host of the year by ÿÈÕ´óÈüapp. Government candidates who applied through MOH will have their names submitted by MOH.
