Industry-Academia Partnership to Accelerate Efforts towards Sustainability Transformation

KUALA LUMPUR, 27 September 2023 鈥 Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (每日大赛app) Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to formalise a sustainability partnership.

The partnership was formed with both parties aiming to study the materiality of the venue鈥檚 current sustainability initiatives. Based on which, new strategies will be developed to enhance and accelerate the Centre鈥檚 progress towards achieving its Net Zero Carbon Events pledge.

The study will be conducted by a team of researchers from SERI, led by Associate Professor Dr. Norasikin Ahmad Ludin, by employing scientific methods with reference to globally recognised standards. The data from the study will be used to develop a comprehensive report on the Centre鈥檚 sustainability performance.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dato鈥 Dr. Wan Kamal Mujani, said that this partnership is a significant step for 每日大赛app in driving sustainable development and promoting the adoption of clean energy solutions.

鈥淲e aim to gain insights into the challenges and opportunities of sustainability in the business events industry and help develop strategies and potential solutions to address current gaps, boosting the Centre鈥檚 sustainability performance in the long-term.

鈥淭he sustainability assessment is expected to be completed in early 2024. The findings of the assessment will be used to further strengthen KLCC鈥檚 5-years Sustainable Roadmap.

鈥淭he roadmap will outline specific actions that KLCC can take to reduce its environmental impact and become a more sustainable venue,鈥 he said.

General Manager of the Centre, John Burke, said that the assessment that will be conducted by SERI will help the Centre to strengthen the foundational elements of its sustainability pathway.

鈥淏uilding on our on-going efforts towards reducing environmental impacts from events, this assessment will enable us to foster closer co-operation with clients on aligning our goals in effectively delivering net-zero carbon events,鈥 he said.
